Abstract

This chapter presents the text of a lecture on the evolution of historical writing in Great Britain. It discusses the unchanging essentials and criticisms that constantly characterised disagreements and discussions about the purpose and nature of history. It also highlights the problems and possibilities of history now and in the future.
