Abstract
Semiconductor optical amplifier (SOA) was used to analyze wavelength-tunable optical spectral bistability in ring lasers. Switching of laser from one bistable state to another by using optical control methods was also demonstrated. The operation was observed by varying the bias current of SOA. Analysis suggested that tuning of polarizer and polarization controller in laser cavity helped in obtaining bistable operation at different wavelengths.
