Abstract

An analysis of velocity shear stabilization of centrifugally confined plasma was performed. For this purpose a magnetized centrifugally confined plasma was subjected to a three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) stability test. It was shown using numerical simulation that a centrifugally confined plasma in a mirror-type configuration is stable to the flutes. It was found that the system was rendered laminar by strong velocity shear.
