Abstract

Experimental results are given to demonstrate that in some situations, perceptual quality can be better maintained using an approach based on synthesizing "virtual" images of a scene that match frames from a source video clip. In particular, for certain types of video, the algorithm can give significant perceptual improvement over MPEG-4 coded video at the same low bit rate.
