Abstract
The densest-known packings of congruent ellipsoids was reported. It was observed that in two dimensions, the densest packing of congruent ellipses has the same density as the densest packing of circles. Non-equilibrium random close packings of ellipsoids, which represents the maximally random jammed (MRJ) state was generated by using molecular dynamics technique. It was shown that the density of crystal packing increases as aspherity is introduced, unlike for random packings where a cusplike increase is observed near α=1.
