Abstract
The effect of an in-plane parallel magnetic field on high mobility metalliclike dilute two-dimensional hole gas systems was investigated in GaAs quantum wells (QW). Independent measurements of the longitudinal resistance per square from contacts on both sides of the QW sample were made simultaneously as the temperature or applied magnetic field were varied. The magnitude of the low temperature resistance drop showed no affect on the characteristic energy scale of the metallic resistance drop. The critical field at which the metalliclike resistance drop vanishes depended on the width of the quantum well and on the orientation of the low temperature resistance drop.
