Abstract

An efficient and consistent finite element formulation and numerical procedures for coupled analysis of magnetically induced transient vibrations of conductor plates are developed and corroborated numerically. This continuum-based finite element model, which employs the magnetic field vector as the state variable in electromagnetic subsystem, requires only $UNK -continuity in both electromagnetic and mechanical aspect. For time integration of the coupled nonlinear hyperbolic system, an efficient numerical scheme is also developed and incorporated in the model. The Fusion Electromagnetic Induction Experiments(FELIX) are modeled and the results are shown to be in very good agreement with the measured field data.
