title = "Theory of forward Raman scattering of nonstationary short laser pulses and backward Raman compression of ultrapowerful lasers in plasmas",
abstract = "The theory of near-forward stimulated Raman scattering of essentially nonstationary laser pulses in plasma is put forth. Conditions are identified for which the backward Raman compression of ultrapowerful lasers in plasmas can be dramatically enhanced.",
author = "Malkin, {V. M.} and Tsidulko, {Yu A.} and Fisch, {N. J.}",
note = "Funding Information: The condition p >C pcru leads to the convective stabilization of the near-forward SRS in the backward Raman amplifier. Higher noise levels could be suppressed by a frequency detuning or by an enhanced shift of the Stokes group velocity, which could be accomplished, say, by a small modulation of plasma density. This suppression leads to increased output intensities for the fast Raman pulse compression. The work is supported by the United States Department of Energy contract DE-FG030-98DP00210.
