Abstract
A full description of the calibration and setting-up of the Slow Proton Trigger for the CERN OMEGA spectrometer is given. The essential feature of the trigger is the ability to identify protons from pions using the time-of-flight and pulse height information obtained with a counter made of long slabs of plastic scintillator coupled to 58 AVP photomultipliers. The performances obtained both in proton and pion beams and during the experiment are reported.
