Abstract

In part 3 experimental results on the surface tensions of solutions of octanoic acid and sodium octanoate at 20, 40 and 60°C are presented. They are used to calculate the heats of adsorption of the charged and uncharged species, and to obtain the electrical part of the heat of formation of the double layer for comparison with the theory of Derjaguin and Landau, and Verwey and Overbeek.
