Abstract

On 23 November 2021, the Grand Chamber of the Court of Justice made a generally unremarkable ruling on the question that launched Case C-564/19 (IS). The question that launched the case was whether the right to a fair trial requires the national judge to be able to assess whether there has been adequate translation in the particular case before him.
