Abstract
Modifying a model of G. I. Agren, we show that the shoot fraction depends approximately linearly on internal nitrogen concentration (n) over a broad range of values of n. The root: shoot ratio decreases monotonically with n; at low nitrogen concentrations this differs from the predictions of G. I. Agren and T. Ingestad.
