Abstract
This letter of congratulations and welcome to Text and Performance Quarterly’s incoming editor, Kimberlee Perez, argues for centering and advocating for the journal’s epistemic commitment to the humanities within communication. It draws on archival materials, scholarship in the journal, and the author’s experiences as both a faculty member and former TPQ editor to discuss the status of this commitment within the field. In a widely acknowledged moment of crisis for the humanities’ position in US higher education, TPQ has a unique and vital role to play in expanding its profile within the National Communication Association and communication as a discipline.
