Abstract

Biomimetics involves the investigation of structure, function, and methods of synthesis of biological composite materials. The paper discusses current issues in biomimetics, with emphasis on hard tissues, including 1) biomineralization, 2) structural hierarchy, 3) macromolecule-inorganic interface structure, 4) identification of macromolecules, and 5) self-assembly.
