Abstract

Preparation and properties of well-defined elastomeric poly(alkylnorborene) s and their hydrogenated derivatives were investigated. Four 5-n-alkylnorborenes monomers were purified by vacuum transfer from sodium. A gel permeation chromatography (GPC) system, comprising a Waters 515 HPLC pump, two 30 cm PLgel 5 μm Mixed-C columns, and a Precision Detectors PD2020 light scattering detector operating at 685 nm, was used to determine the fractional conversion of monomer during polymerization. Results shows that the fraction of unconsumed monomer decays exponentially with a time constant τ=0.052 h.
