Abstract
Polycrystalline specimens of YBa2Cu3O7‐x have been prepared by solid state reaction of the constituent metal oxides. The superconducting nature of the specimens has been characterized by magnetization, resistivity, and eddy current measurements. Onset temperatures for superconductivity exceed 88K. X‐ray and electron diffraction results confirm the orthorhombic crystal structure. Characteristic features have been observed by laser Raman spectroscopy. Copper valency has been determined by thermogravimetric analysis, iodometric titration, and x‐ray photoelectron spectroscopy. Additional evidence suggests that these materials are extremely sensitive to environmental conditions and handling. 1987 The American Ceramic Society
