Abstract
The suppression of superluminous precursors in high power backward Raman amplifiers was studied. The detuning effects were identified which specified the requirements for highly efficient backward Raman amplifiers (BRA) in plasma. Also, the conditions for which the amplified wave fronts are not distorted by prepulse-generated Langmuir waves were identified so that the output could be well focussed. The effects identified and calculated helped in understanding the high-power Raman pulse compression effect in plasma.
