Abstract

The collection of papers edited by R.L. Panton and published under the title Self-Sustaining Mechanisms of Wall Turbulence by Computational Mechanics Publications is summarized and appraised. Despite representing a valuable compendium on the mechanisms and structure of wall-bounded flows, the collection has a number of deficiencies and omissions which are noted here. An overall summary of wall-bounded turbulent structure and its self sustaining mechanisms is also attempted.
