Abstract

The effective conductivity of macroscopically isotropic multiphase composites consisting of N phases was studied. The exact strong-contrast expansions and approximations for the multiphase composites were also presented. The series expansions involved a principal reference term and a fluctuation term. If the fluctuation term vanished, then the appropriate choices for the reference phase conductivity resulted in simple expressions for effective conductivity that coincided with the effective medium and Maxwell approximations for two-phase composites.
