Abstract
The jamming of spherical media was investigated by analyzing the drag force opposing the movement of a solid object through such media. The motion of the object was opposed by jamming of the grains in front of the object. The object moved ahead, displacing the surrounding grains, when applied force exceeded a critical threshold corresponding to the strength of the jammed state. Large fluctuations were resulted in the drag force at low velocities, reflecting the strength of successive jammed states.
