Abstract
This paper examines the state-of-the-art of longitudinal control of Automated Guideway Transit (AGT) vehicles. The three basic longitudinal control concepts used for AGT systems - block control, point-follower, and vehicle-follower - are described and implementation of these concepts in systems currently being developed is presented. Constant-separation, constant-time-headway, and constant-safety-factor spacing policies; their implications on system operation; and their impact on the behavior of vehicle strings are discussed. A discussion of minimum headways is presented.
