Abstract

The spin susceptibility of two-dimensional electron systems (2DES) confined to very narrow AlAs quantum wells (QW) was analyzed. the single-valley occupation, thin electron layer and isotropic in-plane fermi contour properties of the AlAs QWs made them ideal for measuring the role of interaction on the spin susceptibility. An enhancement of the spin susceptibility was observed over the conduction-band value that increased as the carrier density was decreased. No corresponding ferromagnetic instability at the density was observed.
