Abstract

We present SPARTA, the first dual-surface mm-wave active surface enabling RF signal processing (gain and beamforming) on both sides with multiple transmit and reflect configurations, including simultaneous reception and multi-beam re-transmission in either direction across seven modes. The surface integrates 46 flip-chip bonded custom designed CMOS RFICs (23 per side) operating at 60 GHz on a 14-layer laminate and demonstrates NLOS wireless link closure in both reflect and transmit modes.
