Abstract

The creation of stationary cold molecules by optical microlinear deceleration of supersonically cooled molecules in a high-intensity pulsed optical lattice was studied. The volume and the total number density of the decelerated species were limited by the focused spot size of the laser beam. Heavy molecule I2 was used to predict the evolution of the velocity distribution function of the ensemble during the deceleration period.
