Abstract

By manipulating the temperatures at the ends of a sample we show that sliding conductivity can occur without voltage oscillations. This is because the sliding region is kept away from the contacts. By expanding the sliding region we recover oscillations when it touches the contacts. The crucial role of the contacts in noise generation is thereby demonstrated.
