Abstract

The molecular weight (MW) and MW distribution (MWD) of water-soluble polymers was determined by size exclusion chromatography (SEC). Two series of water-soluble polymer standards (pullulan and guar) were chromatographed and a good universal calibration curve was obtained. For guar, the peak elution volume increased with flow rate by 6.5%. The flow rate effect on the MWD was also examined. Although low flow rates take longer time, they give better resolution.
