Abstract

Shearing technique applied to thin films of sphere forming block copolymers (BCP) resulted in BCP dot-array templates with excellent long-range order was demonstrated. A two-layer-thick film of a polystyrene-block-poly(ethylene-alt- propylene) (PS-PEP) diblock copolymer was spin coated onto a polished Si substrate. The shear alignment in bilayer sphere-forming BCP films was found to be dependent on film thickness. The observed dependence of the alignment on layer thickness resulted from the confinement of the film between the substrate and the elastomer pad.
