Abstract
The power-law diffraction peaks in the structure factor of a two-dimensional solid are shown to have a universal shape. The peak at reciprocal-lattice vector G→ is broader normal to G→ than parallel to G→ by a factor which is determined by the elastic constants of the solid and which may range from unity to approximately e.
