Abstract
An overview of current evaluations of seismicity and seismic hazard for New York City (NYC) is presented. Results of the ATC 3/BSSC Trial Design Program for NYC, of a recent probabilistic seismic hazard evaluation prepared for NYC and a comparison of wind and seismic design load exceedance ratios are given and discussed in the context of current design practice and applicable codes. The implications of these results are outlined and possible directions of code development suggested.
