Abstract
The proposal to release Enhydra lutris at San Nicolas Island, California, is a classic example of the kinds of decisions typically faced in environmental management of multiple-use ecosystems. Ultimately, the decisions in such situations cannot be made on scientific grounds alone, and the job of the scientist is to provide the decision-maker and the public with the best available scientific information. -from Author
