Abstract

The Quilt computer-based tool for collaborative writing provides annotation, messaging, computer conferencing, and notification facilities to support communication and information sharing among the collaborators on a document. Extensible sets of social roles and communication types are used to provide views of a document tailored to individual collaborators or to other users of the document based on their position in a permission hierarchy. A description is given of the rationale for and design of Quilt.
