Quasicrystals: a new form of matter

Starting from the discovery of a new state of solid matter - a state intermediate between crystal and glass - about a hundred so-called quasicrystalline alloys have been discovered. Their investigation is still at an early stage but important advances, both theoretical and practical, seem certain.
