Abstract
The theory of a massive vector field (gluon) coupled to a massive fermion (quark) is studied in (1 + 1)-dimensions. The model is shown to be equivalent to a theory of two interacting scalar bosons. In the limit of strong coupling the particle spectrum is found to possess a free heavy quark and light quark-antiquark bound state mesons. Perturbative analysis of gluon effects indicates the absence of quark-meson bound states.
