Abstract

This paper deals with several problems related to the theory of amorphous semiconductors, some of which have remained unsolved despite the magnitude of the effort devoted to basic and applied research on these materials. The author reviews recent progress, attempts to identify the essential remaining difficulties, and summarizes new results. The topics covered are band tails, the Lloyd model, shallow impurity levels, deep levels, excitons, electronic transport, and optical absorption.
