Abstract

A probabilistic decision-based neural network for finding deformable patterns or objects has been developed, especially for detecting human faces and locating eyes in the faces. The system has been shown to be applicable under reasonable variations of orientation and/or lighting, and with the possibility of eye glasses. The system was also very robust against large variations of face features and eye shapes. The efficiency of the system was evaluated after being used for surveillance system and video browsing applications and the experimental results are discussed.
