Abstract
A general analytical model is proposed which describes the anisotropic, elasto-plastic, path-dependent stress-strain properties of inviscid saturated clays under undrained loading conditions. The basic principles of the model are presented along with a general interpretation of its main features and capabilities. The model predictions are compared with laboratory results from undrained triaxial and simple shear tests on clays. A method is proposed to evaluate the coefficient of effective lateral stress in simple shear samples at failure.
