Abstract
The radiative recombination time τ of excitons in GaAs/AlGaAs quantum wells shows an anomalous increase at the v = 1 3 incompressible quantum liquid (IQL). This order of magnitude increase in τ indicates that at v = 1 3 the electron density near the valence band hole is reduced. The electron density spreads out as a consequence of the incompressibility of the IQL.
