Abstract
CaO(K//2O)-MgO-SiO//2 liquids permeated into magnesia and forsterite compacts when continuous or ″open″ channels were available at the liquid-solid interface. Solid-solution formation at the liquid-forsterite interface resulted in closing off the open channels. The sessile drop and permeation experiments provided information used to interpret microstructure development.
