Abstract

Response of shelf glacier to possible variations of global temperature of ocean has been investigated. Two-dimensional mathematical model of thermochalinic circulation of water under shelf glacier has been considered. Heat and mass transfer at interface between ocean and glacier has been taken into account. Rate of phase transition of ice-water has been evaluated. Influence of ice at lower boundary of shelf glacier on the rate has been studied. Dissolution of ice at the lower boundary of shelf glacier is integral response to variation of temperature and can be index of global ocean temperature variation.
