Abstract
Theoretical results predict that by using orthogonal modulation in direct detection fiber optic systems, the minimum optical power requirements can be reduced by up to 6 dB, compared to non orthogonal systems. This letter reports on the results of an experiment comparing orthogonal and nonorthogonal modulation in fiber optic systems.
