Abstract

Fluid mediated interactions between particles in a vibrating fluid leading to long range attraction and short range repulsion were analyzed. The resulting pattern comprised of hexagonally ordered microcrystallites, chaotic fluctuating patterns with complex dynamics and time-periodic structures. A good quantitative account of the interaction was given by a model based on streaming flow.
