Abstract

Optical clock recovery using the periodic oscillations (also known as Ikeda. oscillations) that arise from the astable behavior of a Ti:LiNbO3Mach-Zehnder modulator with delayed feedback is demonstrated at a frequency of 13.6 MHz. The jitter performance of the new timing extraction scheme is presented for several input patterns. The circuit provides gain and its speed can be improved by monolithic integration of the modulator and the feedback-loop components.
