Abstract
The channel capacity of DS-CDMA systems using parallel interference cancellation (PIC) is considered. It is shown that in non-fading channels, PIC does not improve channel capacity. In frequency flat fading channels without power control and with outage probability, the capacity improvement and spectral efficiencies of different PIC schemes are analyzed. The optimal capacity of such fading channels is given and shown numerically to be achieved by a PIC+minimum-mean-square-error scheme in most cases.
