Nonlinear self-filtering via modulation instability

Abstract

We consider the nonlinear propagation of a mixture of coherent and spatially-incoherent light. We derive a diffraction/dispersion relation for the coupling and show experimentally how joint modulation instability can recover signals from a noisy background.
