Abstract

The beam, equilibrium, stability and transport (BEST) code was implemented to study the stability properties of intense non-neutral charged particle beams with pressure anisotropy. The three dimensional perturbative particle simulation enabled identification of the most unstable modes and calculation of their eigenfrequencies and radial mode structures. The kinetic and fluid descriptions predicted instability for diferent ranges of beam intensity.
