Abstract

A novel concept of a so-called mixed pump for the promising scheme of short ultra-intense laser pulses amplification by Raman backscattering in plasmas is presented. A mixed pump represents a superposition of several laser beams of slightly different frequencies and allows a number of advantageous properties of the desired signal amplification.
