Abstract

In this paper the problem of laser thermal ignition using a dual-pulse approach is modeled. A first UV laser pulse serves as a pre-ionizing pulse without significant optical breakdown and the second IR pulse overlapping the first pulse allow tailoring the energy deposition and gas heating. The model is constructed in a frame of analytical theory of Keldysh in the single electron approximation with stoichiometric methane-air mixtures.
