Abstract

A procedure is given where hydrologic input-output models of the ARMAX or impulse response type, can be identified using an extension of Akaike's canonical correlation procedure. The parameters of the models are then estimated using maximum likelihood. Comparison between off-line maximum likelihood and recursion maximum likelihood are described. The procedures are applied to the River Dee in North Wales.
