Mode selection and switching in ring quantum cascade lasers

Abstract

Travelling waves are a signature of ideal ring resonators; however, in practice they are only realized under unidirectional operation of the resonator. We demonstrate a novel method for controllable mode selection and switching between the two counterpropagating modes of a ring quantum cascade laser.
