Abstract
The capacity of a multiple antenna system in Rician fading is considered under the assumption that channel state information (CSI) is available only at the receiver and that the transmitter has knowledge of statistical properties of the fading process though not the instantaneous CSI. Tight upper and lower bounds for the capacity of such a system are derived and a new input signalling scheme that significantly outperforms the existing choices is also proposed. It is shown that by exploiting the knowledge of Rician-ness at the transmitter, a much higher capacity can be achieved for a multiple antenna system in Rician fading. The derived capacity bounds have been evaluated explicitly to provide numerical results in some representative situations.
